Anthony Rizzo has been the subject of a fierce trade between Chicago Cubs and New York Yankees– which took place on the MLB deadline. The Cubs have decided to cover the rest of Rizzo’s contract which is $6 million- as stated by Ken Rosenthal, the reporter of The Athletic, after which the club would be receiving two prospects in exchange.
Rizzo will be turning 32 in August and is an impending free agent who has hit .248/.346/.446 this season with around 14 home runs in 92 games.
Anthony Rizzo Acquired by the Yankees
This is literally the second move made by the New York Yankees over the last 24 hours, who have already added Joey Gallo and Joely Rodriguez in a six-player trade with the Texas Rangers on Wednesday.
The Rangers, on their part, have already retained the entire part of the remaining salaries of the four prospects that they had. Anthony Rizzo will be giving the club another left-handed middle-of-the-order bat who figures to serve as the first baseman. He would be replacing Luke Voit, and there have been rumors that the absence of Voit is simply a move to facilitate more trades. As by Rizzo’s trade, one could surmise that the outcome is more than likely.
In an interview with Bryan Hoch, Anthony Rizzo mentioned that this was quite a great opportunity for him, and he was really grateful that he would be playing for the New York Yankees. And it goes without saying that the Yankees would really need all the help that they can get. A total loss against the Tampa Bay Rays dropped them to 53-48 on the season. They already trail the second spot on the wild card by 2 ½ entering the day- as they ranked in the bottom-third of all MLB in runs scored.
Anthony Rizzo, on his part, has experienced quite a storied career with the Cub, as he made three All-Star Games- where he won four Gold Glove awards as well as a Silver Slugger.
