Bryce Harper Breaks His Thumb While Playing Against San Diego Padres

Bryce Harper

Bryce Harper, a hitter for the Philadelphia Phillies and the current NL MVP, broke his left thumb during a game against the San Diego Padres on Saturday at Petco Park (GameTracker).

After taking a 97 mph fastball from Blake Snell to the hand, Harper left the game right away. Soon later, the Phillies disclosed the fracture and said Harper will go through further testing in the following days. They did not give a recuperation schedule for him.

While clearly in pain and obviously furious, Snell apologized, and as he left the field, Harper seemed to assure Snell that he knew he did not strike him on purpose. Harper was formally placed on the 10-day disabled list by the Phillies on Sunday. He will be replaced on the roster by outfielder Mickey Moniak of Triple-A Lehigh Valley. Due to an elbow ligament issue, Harper has spent most of the season playing DH only.

Bryce Harper Wishes That The Ball Hit His Face

Nevertheless, he was having a tremendous season and came into Saturday’s game with a hitting line of.320/.385/.602 with 21 doubles and 15 home runs. In baseball, he is eighth in total bases and seventh in extra-base hits (37). (145).

To put it simply, Bryce Harper is unique. Even though he had been playing with a ruptured UCL in his right arm since mid-April, Harper was having one of the greatest seasons of his career. He was hitting.318 with 48 RBIs, 15 home runs, and an OPS of.984. He has the fifth-best hitting average in the NL, the sixth-best on-base percentage (.385), and the second-best slugging percentage (.599).

According to Thomson, Kyle Schwarber, Nick Castellanos, and others will alternate with Bryce Harper as the Phillies’ designated hitter. But everyone who can hit will have to do so. Dave Dombrowski, the president of baseball operations for the Philadelphia Phillies, claimed that Ronald Acua Jr.’s season-ending knee injury on July 10 did not prevent the Braves from winning the World Series the previous year.

Their final regular-season score was 44–29. This year, Fernando Tatis Jr. has not played for the Padres. They are 45 to 29.
