Drew Barrymore had been invited to present the program but declined to perform so in support of the current Hollywood writers’ dispute. This year’s MTV Movie & TV Awards take on a slightly different appearance.
Following host Drew Barrymore’s Thursday resignation in support of the continuing Hollywood screenwriters strike, the fan-voted accolades event, which had been scheduled to run live, switched to its fan-voted version as well as was shown on Sunday night. While the show was airing, Barrymore, who had pledged to host it again in 2024, continued to make appearances in previously taped routines. Until a solution is found, Barrymore will be observing from home. Waiting for a solution in the hopes that others will follow them.
