Rosie O’Donnell Explains How Ellen Degeneres Hurt Her Feelings: Said She Never Got Over It

Rosie O'Donnell

Rosie O’Donnell visited Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen on Thursday, where she spoke about her odd friendship—or lack thereof—with Ellen Degeneres.

Andy Cohen questioned O’Donnell about why she never appeared on The Ellen Degeneres Show. During its 20-year run. Rosie O’Donnell acknowledged they probably didn’t have her on as a guest since they “had a little bit of a weird thing.”

After her show ended and Ellen’s began airing, O’Donnell claimed that Larry King appeared on the broadcast with Ellen and asked, “Whatever happened to Rosie O’Donnell?” Her show failed miserably. After coming out as a lesbian, she vanished. I’m quoting Ellen when she responded, “I don’t know Rosie.” We are not close.

O’Donnell was upset when Degeneres later claimed she didn’t know her because Degeneres appeared on The Rosie O’Donnell Show in 1996 and danced around rumors about her sexuality by suggesting her character would come out as “Lebanese” months before she came out as homosexual on her self-titled sitcom Ellen.

O’Donnell did admit that she was eventually invited to appear on The Ellen Show near the conclusion of the program’s run to promote her Showtime comedy series SMILF, but she declined after asking if she could bring a guest to make the appearance “a little less awkward” because they turned down her request. Even yet, she wishes Ellen the best despite the uncomfortableness.

Rosie O’Donnell concluded by saying that she wants her to have all she wants in life and to be healthy.
