The RO16 fixture of the knockout stage of the World Cup was not gull of surprises. England and their army of three lions saw themselves through to the Quarter Finals after defeating the African Champions Senegal.

Senegal’s fairytale for this year’s World Cup have been ended as they faced the mighty force of England and fell short of three goals against them.

In Sunday’s two fixtures, France, the reigning World Champions looked unbeatable yet again against Poland, before England met Senegal and secured their place in the Quarter Finals with that match.

England football team has been putting some miraculous performances in the world stage for quite some time now. They recently climbed the ladder to the top and faced Italy in the finals of the last EURO Cup campaign. Under Gareth Southgate they were also able to reach to the semis of the WC 2018.

England beat Senegal En Route To The Quarter Finals:

The Three Lions put on an impressive display in this World Cup campaign too as they beat the African Champions to reach to the Quarter Finals of the tournament to meet France.

Senegal however have had a fairytale in this world cup before falling short to the England’s two goals in the first half and one more in the second.

In recent times, African teams lost eight of their nine KO matches against the European countries in the World Cup. The coincidence resides in this information. Senegal’s manager Alliou Cisse has captained his nation the only time an African team beat an European team to progress through the KO stages. It was in 2002 Japan-Korea World Cup. Cisse is now coaching the Senegal national team.

With the injury that has shown their captain and star man Sadio Mane out of the World Cup no one however expected Senegal to come this far in the competition.
