Missouri Republican candidate for the Senate, Eric Greitens’s former wife has accused him of violence against her and her two sons. The allegation came to light in released court papers. The papers were made public this Monday. Eric Greitens dismissed the remarks as being lies that were being peddled by his political opponents and sections of the media.
Eric Greitens said in a statement that he would continue to care for his sons and love them. He spoke of fighting for the truth and taking a stand against the totally fabricated and baseless allegations against him.
The Republican candidate, aged 47, said that he had sought full guardianship of his sons and said that he would pray for the children’s mother. He hoped that she would get the help she needed. The couple divorced in 2020.
Eric Greitens’ Wife Detailed Incidents Of Physical And Mental Harassment Against Him
His wife Sheena Greitens had mentioned in court proceedings that Eric Greitens had knocked her down during a row in 2018 at the couple’s home. She alleged that Greitens took away her wallet, phone, and keys.
She alleged that Greitens had even taken a picture invading her privacy and threatened to kill himself, till she stood by him in public during a different political scandal. Eric Greitens’ wife also said that Greitens had only handcuffed their son, who was 3 years old at that time. She also said that her son was stuck so badly that he suffered a loose tooth, bleeding gums, and a swollen face.
Numerous candidates seeking nominations from the GOP for a seat in the Senate had sought to drop Eric Greitens from the race. They were supported by Senator Josh Hawley, a Missouri Republican. He said that Eric Greitens should be in handcuffs for hitting a child and a woman, and not in the US Senate. He called for Eric to leave the race.
Earlier Greitens had been the Missouri governor in 2017, though he had to resign a year later following allegations of sexual wrongdoing. The couple separated after his resignation.
