Gary Payton II does not feel safe, even though he has been signed by the Golden State Warriors to a partially guaranteed contract in October. Back then, he was signed in to fill the team’s final roster, but Payton has definitely used his ability on both ends of the floor along with his incredible agility to climb the ranks into coach Steve Kerr’s talented rotation.
Even though his role has increased- which involves starting in the last seven contests for the Warriors, Payton hasn’t let himself get too complacent with the development. He has continued to log in his minutes even though the 10th January cutoff date for signing players with partially guaranteed contracts for the season comes close.
Gary Payton II Doesn’t Feel His Place Is Safe In The Team
Gary Payton II shouldn’t really worry, as reporters did inform him of Steve Kerr’s statement before the Warriors lost to the Pelicans on Thursday night- Payton would be donning a Warriors uniform for the rest of the NBA season. At that information, Payton stated that he didn’t really feel safe for even a single moment- and he still doesn’t know if he feels safe currently, but he believes in the statement of Coach Kerr.
Gary Payton II did post double-digit points in eight consecutive games- which also includes a season-high 22 points against the Grizzlies on the 23rd of December before he was held to just four points in around 14 minutes against the Pelicans on Thursday night. He however dealt with that through a throw down in a vicious dunk and beating Jonas Valanciunas on a jump ball in the third quarter. To simplify things for the uninformed, he out jumped a 7-foot center.
Gary Payton II did spend some time with the Los Angeles Lakers, Washington Wizards, and the Milwaukee Bucks from 2016-20 before playing in 10 games for the Warriors the previous season.
