The current holders of the Champions League, Chelsea, flexed all their strength and their quality to snuff out any single prospect of a cup upset. Lukaku, moving on from the controversies that plagued him the last week, tapped in Lewis Hall’s low cross and then missed three gilt-edged chances before being subbed at half-time. Hall, just 17 years old now, was impressed on his senior outing claiming a deserved assist for Lukakyu.

Other players for the team from London who found the net were Timo Werner, Andreas Christensen, Calum Hudson-Odoi, and Hakim Ziyech.

Chelsea Had A Good Day On The Field

The huge gap between Chelsea and the Championship team was evident throughout, with the team in blue still being able to bring out seven different changes despite a boatload of injuries and absentees from Covid-19. Chesterfield had just a lone moment of joy on the field when Akwasi Asante managed to tap in a late consolation goal to spark some raucous celebrations amongst their fans- who definitely considered this to be a pretty big achievement.

Although the London team managed to completely destroy the other team, they would be frustrated at having to surrender their clean sheet at the death.

The result was never in doubt for Chelsea. From the moment Lukaku managed to whip a first-time effort from a corner just over the bar, the dominance of the team in blue was stamped. Werner managed to put the team into a lead in the fifth minute, with Hall being the catalyst for a fast break where Hakim Ziyech’s half-saved shot fell before Werner punt in an open net. Werner would have been able to double his tally if he had been able to react fast enough to another shot from Ziyech which was parried across goal.

What followed that was simply carnage, as the 20-yard strike from Hudson-Odoi under absolutely no pressure put Chelsea up by 2 goals, with the left wing-back taking aim carefully and being entirely too relaxed with the way he hit it. Lukaku then tapped into the cross from Hall to put the Blues 3-0 up, after which both Christensen and finally Ziyech put in five goals for the team in blue.
