Joe Biden Travels To Florida To Survey Idalia Damage

In the wake of Hurricane Idalia, President Joe Biden traveled to hurricane-ravaged Florida last Saturday. He spoke with locals, saw storm-damaged neighborhoods, and thanked first responders. Although generally according to the rules, the post-danger tour was somewhat marred by a group that included inconsistent claims from the White House staff and people for the Government of Florida. The two have displayed symptoms of their rivalry while reacting to a crisis, and they eventually did not unite – marking a dramatic change from Joe Biden’s past trips following big calamities in the State.

DeSantis and Biden have already met under difficult situations; they did so in the wake of the Surfside collapse in 2021 and then again in the wake of Hurricane Ian’s destruction to southern Florida in 2022. After landing, Joe Biden and Jill Biden attended a response and recovery meeting in Florida, with Republican Sen. R. Scott, government employees, local leaders, and the first responders. The president thanked Scott for having him informed, and he even praised the president for the administration’s “fast” reaction, as did Scott, who was sporting a cap with “45” stitched behind it.

Joe Biden said on Saturday, addressing all the people that their nation had their back and would remain at their side till the crisis was gone. Before making a speech, Joe Biden and Jill Biden flew over the affected areas. When questioned if he had been upset that DeSantis chose not to participate in the trip on Saturday, Biden responded that perhaps the governor had some other reason. Regarding the visit, there has been back and forth between the White House and DeSantis’ staff.

The governor’s spokeswoman contradicted the president, who previously had informed the media that day that the two would meet, by stating on Friday night that DeSantis had no plans to meet with Biden. DeSantis spent the day visiting hurricane damage, but in different regions of the state, according to his scheduled activities.
