To be precise, it is the phone of the Democratic politician that has grabbed the attention. There are few more people like the lawmakers of the GOP whose phone records, according to the select committee, might be somehow related.
Kevin McCarthy’s Statement
It has been stated that the concerned select committee made contact with a few telecommunication companies with regard to the matter. They directed those companies to provide the phone records of the House members belonging to the Republican Party as well as Kevin McCarthy, the Democratic leader. This incident took place at the beginning of the week. On the 30th of August, one of the popular news sources mentioned the potential of lawmakers who had a high chance of getting involved in the list ready by the Capitol investigation select committee.
However, the name of the 56-year-old Kevin McCarthy was not anticipated before. It only came up just before the name list got finalized. The select committee gave a clear indication that the name list that was prepared after the request of the panel, was still the same. This statement was made on the 2nd of September.
This announcement was stated by the aide. Following the incident, Kevin McCarthy clearly told the concerned telecommunications companies that in case they comply with the committee and provide the phone details, they would be in violation of the law. No official statement has been provided by the office of the Democratic minority leader until now. And they have also not stated the type of law that the companies would be breaking in case they do what they are told to by the select committee.
