With Kyler Murray having quite a bad day on the field, it was just a matter of time before the Detroit Lions toppled the Arizona Cardinals. The Cardinals had started the day having tied the best record ever in the NFL and had been undefeated as they kept moving towards the title race. On the other side of the spectrum, the team from Detroit was entombed at the bottom of the league before the first snap.
Cardinals Lose Out To The Lions
Arizona hence missed out on the chance of qualifying for the playoffs for the first time in over six years- as it would have taken just a single win over a team that it had been heavily favored against. It had been understood that the Cardinals would have been able to dispose of the Lions easily, despite them coming off a loss on Monday to the NFC West-rival Los Angeles Rams.
Currently, the Cardinals still have a chance of qualifying for the playoff berth which would be taking place during Week 15, but they would also have to deal with several other playoff contenders to end up losing. And in every single scenario, Murray would have to bring his A-game.
In the match against the Lions, the third-year quarterback was just 23 of 41 for 257 yards with just a single touchdown and an interception, which added up to a passer rating of 72.9. The third-year pro doesn’t seem to be having that good a season in the NFL this time around, with a slightly lower rating coming twice this season- with the team from Arizona losing both of those times to the Rams and Green Bay. And now, they can add Detroit to that list.
Although it was evident that Murray was trying his best to get away from the scrappy Detroit Lions when he tried to run, he couldn’t just get away- finishing with three yards and rushing on four carries.
