MacKenzie Scott, a philanthropist and the former wife of Jeff Bezos has claimed to have donated no less than a colossal amount of $1.7 billion since her divorce. These have been donated to various organizations under the umbrella of public health, social justice and climate change.
She also issued a list that showed an elaborate division of the total sum, mentioning the causes such as racial equity, gender parity, public health, empathy, climate change to name a few.
“On this list, 91% of the racial equity organizations are run by leaders of color, equity organizations are run by LGBTQ+ leaders, and 83% of the gender equity organizations are run by women, bringing lived experience to solutions for imbalanced social systems. The organizations … offer a daily reminder that we can each carry more than we imagine.”
She referred to her signing of the Giving Pledge in 2019, which is a campaign that encourages the world’s wealthiest people to share their fortune for philanthropic causes and contribute to the lessening of the disparity gap prevalent in the world.
