Manchester City’s smooth ride till the title hit a bump as local rivals Manchester United defeated them at their home in the recent derby. The home side failed to score any as Manchester United scored one in each half. This halts City’s winning streak in all competitions at 21. Manchester United has now made it to 22 in their streak of being undefeated in away games in the Premier League.

Manchester United’s Wins The Battle

The victory however is possibly too little too late as City still enjoys an 11 point lead at the top. With only 10 matches left to be played, it is highly unlikely Pep Guardiola will allow his side to give up the title. United Manager Ole Solskjaer was of the same opinion while being ecstatic over his team’s performance in the derby.

Manchester United was at the top of the table at the start of the year. However, a string of underwhelming results saw them allow City to rush to the top. The victory at the derby is significant of a rather promising situation, compared to the time when Ole had taken charge.

The red side of Manchester, however, still seemed to be suffering from a severe lack of depth in their squad. This has been the most detracting point of their campaigns since Sir Alex Ferguson’s time. However, with the win at Etihad Ole will hope to have given Woodward further grounds to trust.

The first goal was a Bruno Fernandes penalty in the second minute of the game. Luke Shaw added the second at the end of a scintillating run shortly after the second half began. Manchester City did come close but Dean Henderson was more than up to the task. The title may be in its dying stage, but Manchester United will still have a lot of expectations going into the next season.
