Monica Abbott provided a handy lead to the US softball team against Canada. She held on to the lead by a solitary run. A valiant effort from 

Jen Gilbert of Canada could not see her through. Sara Groenewegen got pitched 0-2 at the gap of the field in the center-right.

The match between the US & Canada was a treat t watch. It was being fought thrillingly. Abbott was lucky enough to just edge past their opponents by a slender lead. Haylie McCleney initiated the move for the United States. She threw the ball towards Ali Aguilar who made a perfect hop to present the ball to Aubree Munro. Munro swooped in on Joey Lye sending her out for an American triumph. 

Monica Abbott stated that she enjoyed the match thoroughly. She termed her experience as “fun & exciting”. She expressed her nervousness while admitting that giving the hitter required courage. She said she kept believing in herself which maintained her courage.

A single RBI was hit by Amanda Chidester against Jenna Caira, who lost. McCleney had a 3 on 3 scores as she reached the base on seven occasions. 

The US softball team has entered the Olympics with the dream of winning the Gold. The US failed to gain the top position when they lost against the Japanese team. The incident took place in 2008. However, the team seemed to have improved a lot. They are currently enjoying a 2-0 lead. The tournament will be having an off day due to the Opening ceremony. It will then be continued in Yokohama. 

In their quest for gold, Monica Abbott seems to be their best bet. Boasting an enviable physique of 6’3″, she has the advantage of a better reach. The tournament was not attended by a house crowd due to the ongoing pandemic.
