On Friday, President Joe Biden announced that Neera Tanden will be succeeding Susan Rice as the domestic policy adviser for the White House. The White House, in retrospect, had announced the previous week that Rice would be leaving her post this month, which was marked as one of the highest-profile departures under the administration as the domestic agenda of the President stalled in a divided Congress. Tanden joined the Biden administration in 2021 as a senior adviser after she withdrew her nomination to run the Office of Management and Budget, which did not gain enough support in the Senate.
Neera Tanden Will Replace Susan Rice As Domestic Policy Adviser
In a statement made on Friday, Joe Biden remarked that for over two years, Susan Rice had assisted in implementing and crafting the domestic policy agenda as envisaged by Biden, and the country owed a massive debt of gratitude for her history-creating public service. Nevertheless, he was pleased to announce that Neera Tanden would be replacing her and would continue to drive the implementation and formulation of the domestic policy, racial equity to health care, education, immigration, and economic mobility under the Biden administration. He further added that she would be the first Asian American to hold this position, as Tanden is the daughter of Indian immigrants.
There were two other personnel promotions apart from Neera Tanden that Biden announced on Friday. First, Stefanie Feldman would be serving as assistant to the President and staff secretary. Currently, she serves as the deputy assistant to the President- as well as the senior adviser to the White House domestic policy adviser. Second, Zayn Siddique had been promoted to the position of Principal Deputy to the Domestic Policy Council.
