The current Toyota Fortuner version has decent safety specifics and carries a powerful fuel-efficient engine. Fortuner may exude richness and practicality but with new SUVs coming into the Indonesia auto market, maybe its ASEAN NCAP rating is its biggest advantage. Ford Endeavour, DFSK Glory 580 and Renault Kiger 2021 are hell-bent to outsmart the new Toyota Fortuner TRD in the SUV segment.

The lowest pricing for the Fortuner retails at IDR 492,950,000, while the high-end variant goes for IDR 685,050,000.  Going by the latest automotive news, cheaper and economical SUVs with more spacious interiors will flood the less competitive 7-seater auto market in Indonesia.

Staring at the huge TRD grille laced with sunken fog lights on both sides and the large dimensions, this SUV was definitely designed a sport utility SUV. The SUVs masculinity is well displayed on the front. Besides the glossy 18-inch TRD alloy wheels offering a firm grip on all types of surfaces, the ornamental rim’s design is admirable.

The general exterior design is more aerodynamic compared to the second generation Fortuner. Most of the underpinnings are much borrowed from the Hilux.

Open the doors and you’ll be greeted by luxurious leather seat trims and leather-wrapped steering wheel. Other than being electrically adjustable, the front seats are electrically heated. The superior leather holster on the sides and dashboard plus the dual-tone combination highlights to interiors hidden beauty. On the dashboard is a humble space to carry your essential items.

From single zone climatic control, an 8.95-inch infotainment display, multi-information display to the expandable storage space explains why the Toyota Fortuner TRD is far apart in the SUV competition.

Toyota dis its best to offer the Fortuner with two engine options: a 2TR-FE 2.7 litre 4-cylinder petrol engine and a 2GD-FTV 2.4 litre diesel engine. The petrol engine employs Dual VVT-i technology and produces 160 HP at 3,400 rpm and 242 Nm at 4,000 rpm. It’s mounted to a 6-speed automatic gearbox.

Driving the diesel Fortuner, power and strength are well manifested. At 1,600 rpm – 2,000 rpm, this 2,393 cc VNT intercooler turbo diesel engine will produce 400 Nm of torque. Revving at 3,400 rpm, it will produce 147 HP. Unlike the diesel option, which gets a 4×4 drive system, the petrol option is connected to a 4×2 system.

As the diesel engine consumes 9.8 km/litre on a good road, the petrol sips 18.4 km/litre in the urban.
