The El Clasico held on October 28th saw Real Madrid emerge as the victors against Barcelona. Madrid came back from a deficit of one goal to secure the win with a final score of 2 goals to 1. Both goals were scored by Jude Bellingham. Barcelona’s single goal was scored by Ilkay Gundogan at the Estadi Olimpci Lluis Companys.
Real Madrid Hands Barcelona Their First Loss
Real Madrid’s win also means that Barcelona’s unbeaten streak in this season of the La Liga has now come to an end. In fact, the Catalans now remain in third place while Real Madrid make their way into the lead. This is the first time Real Madrid has staged a comeback while being a goal down during halftime in an El Clasico since 1988. At first, Barcelona was the team in control, spurred on by the chants of the home crowd. Gundogan scored the goal six minutes into the match.
Then began the heroics of England’s most promising midfielder Jude Bellingham. In minute number 68, he fired a thunderous, stunning shot from outside the penalty box. Marc-Andre ter Stegen, the goalkeeper of Barcelona, just barely managed to touch the ball. However, the shot had too much power and speed in it. The second goal and the eventual winner arrived during stoppage time. A cross was floated into the box by Dani Carvajal that Luka Modric managed to barely pull down with his toe. As it was bouncing goalwards, Bellingham made a heroic dash and steered it past Ter Stegen.
Bellingham has undoubtedly been La Liga’s most impressive player so far. However, on the day of the match, he was comparatively quiet for a long time. The performance was symbolic of the subdued collective showing that Real Madrid was delivering. However, ensured that the chances he received would not go amiss.
