Senator Sheldon Whitehouse’s ties with an all-white exclusive club with racist policies have thrown him into a controversy after he defended his affiliation. He is a long-time member of the Bailey’s Beach Club in Rhode Island, also called the Spouting Rock Beach Association.

On being questioned about his affiliation to the club with its bigoted policies, Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse said that the people at the club were considering the issue and he is regretful that it is yet to happen.

He has refused further comments on the matter. But his spokesman told reporters that the club had no such policy or that it had discriminatory or restrictive practices in place. Richard Davidson said that the member had colored members in the past and continues to do so.

Sheldon Whitehouse Had Doubled Back On His Decision To Quit Racist Club Before

Sheldon Whitehouse had announced his intent to quit the club but had renewed his membership later. The Bailey Beach Club has declined to comment on the issue and only said that it was a very small beach club.

But Sheldon Whitehouse has defended the club and said that there was diversity in its composition of members. He said that he did not spend much time there.

Black Lives Matter Ashamed Of Sheldon Whitehouse’s Hypocrisy

Executive Director Gary Dantzler of Black Lives Matter has called out Senator Whitehouse’s hypocrisy and said he was ashamed of his affiliation with the racist club. He said that the Senator speaking about putting an end to systemic racism while continuing to be a member was the worst form of hypocrisy.

He called for an end to the ‘good ole boy’ attitude. He called for an end to Jim Crow period racism. He called for immediate equity and real change.

While the Republicans have gone all out for him, including Donald Trump and his son, Sheldon Whitehouse’s supporters said that this was not about club membership. They said that he was being targeted for his attempts to stop the use of dark money in politics.
