Inter Miami, officially Club Internacional de Fútbol Miami, are an up and coming soccer club based at the Inter Miami CF Stadium.
With the motto “Libertad, Unidad, Fortuna”, this new team aims to represent inclusivity, unity and solidarity, which is illustrated by their highly diverse, international squad selection. They have now launched as the 25th Major League Soccer club and played their first official game on March 1 2020 against Los Angeles FC.
However, the club haven’t got off to the best of starts and are hoping to turn things around with a few new high profile signings. Once the team really starts to bond and their form improves, Inter Miami are likely to experience a growing, loyal fanbase. They will also improve their odds on betting sites. Sports betting has grown in popularity recently as some states have relaxed their gambling regulations for online and land-based betting and casino games. So, who are the soccer stars that Inter Miami are hoping will improve them?
Midfielder Blaise Matuidi, has now officially been signed on by Inter Miami. The 33-year-old joins the team following three seasons at Italian team Juventus and six seasons with French team Paris Saint-Germain. He is an experienced player who has made appearances in the 2018 World Cup, as well as the 2016 and 2014 Euros.
By bringing Matuidi into the team, Inter Miami hope to create a more well rounded midfield. With him in position, Rodolfo Pizarro has more freedom to focus on the attack.
Gonzalo Higuain’s signing to Inter Miami hit the headlines recently due to it being the most expensive signing in Major League Soccer at £5.45million. This came after a payoff enabling him to leave his contract at Juventus one year early. His new salary will see the Argentine striker earning more than his new boss, David Beckham. Beckham took home a £5 million base salary when playing for LA galaxy.
His new contract with Inter Miami is two and a half years in length and will see him through until the end of the 2022 season.
The player will be welcomed into the team, as they desperately need a striker. All seven of the losses in games before the MLS season were a single goal margin.
Colombian Forward Radamel Falcao has recently discussed his desire to join Inter Miami. The Galatasaray player has two years left at his team in Turkey but has shown a keen interest in joining the Heron’s as a striker in the US.
The player has previously played for Monaco, Atletico Madrid and Porto. He has also been on loan to UK teams Manchester United and Chelsea during the Premier League season.
While Falcao has no interest in retiring just yet, he has started thinking about the future. The player has an interest in becoming a sporting director rather than moving into coaching. Hopefully, Beckham with his experience of moving from professional player to owner, will be able to share a few tips with him.
Future players are being onboarded through The Inter Miami CF Academy
The club is currently in the process of developing its academy. The academy aims to give talented young players the opportunity to develop into fully fledged professional soccer players that can play at MLS standards.
The club funds seven youth teams across different age groups between 12 years old and 19 years old. The first academy match was played on home soil in South Florida in September last year.
What’s next for the club?
They need to invest in an experienced attacking player
Inter Miami have a rather urgent need for a good attacking player. While they do have Rodolfo Pizarro, this isn’t enough to make them into a competitive team. Falcao would make a great match, however the team cannot afford to wait that long. Other options could include Luis Suarez or Edinson Cavani.
Developing their under 23s
It is also time for the club to work on preparing their under 23s team for future success. At present, there are twelve players on the under 23s roster, including Robbie Robinson, DP Matias Pellegrini and Christian Makoun. These new players are crucial to the club’s long-term success. This group needs to develop skills that they can build on over the years to come.
Inter Miami are a young, dynamic team that still have a lot to learn if they are going to compete (and succeed in) games such as Major League Soccer. With a few new and potential signings, the club is starting to become noticed as a competitive team that will make it far as soon as their line-up is finalised.
