Athing Mu seems to be having the time of her life. She had just won the gold medal in Tokyo Olympics. This makes her a part of history. She became the only woman in America to achieve this feat in 800m. The previous winner dated way back to 1968. The women’s 800m was never an easy event. However, the teenager made it look easy and handed America its first winner after ages.

Athing Mu Creates History

It was a fantastic outing for Mu. She is just 19 years of age. Mu has created history and made the whole of America very much proud. She glided through the women’s 800m to clinch the top spot. This was the first instance after 1968 America won the event.

Mu recorded a time of 1min 55.21 sec on the clock. This was the best for any American. It also ranked at the fifth place overall records. The other winners were Keely Hodgkinson Raevyn Rogers. These two athletes bagged Silver and Bronze respectively. The time recorded by them were 1:55:88 & 1:56:81.

This win makes Athing Mu only the second woman to achieve this feat. The first American was Madeline Manning. She stated that she entered the contest with full focus. She remained relaxed and calm. She did not let any unwanted pressure or tension seep in. Her only focus was to win the event and pose for the gold. Mu stated that her dream was to make her country proud.

Athing Mu was over the moon after the achievement. However, her calmness and maturity were absolutely on point. Despite being so much younger, she did not show over-exaggeration of emotions. She has quite a lot of experience on the big stage. She is a part of both the US junior and senior teams. Mu has been received the NCAA award thrice.
