The Detroit Pistons have agreed to part with Blake Griffin after the player has agreed to activate the buyout clause in his contract. The Pistons will be returned a salary received worth $13.3 million by Griffin. At the age of 31, Blake Griffin is now set to be one of the most sought-after free agents on the market.

Blake Griffin Believes He Can Attain More

Griffin, who has been an All-Star six times, has expressed his feelings of gratitude for the team. He said that he is thankful that the team understood his desire and responded accordingly. The Pistons are currently in a period of re-forming their squad. Griffin had not featured for the team since the middle of February.

Blake Griffin, however, is considerably past his prime. His role has been that of a floor spacer in more recent times, compared to the athletic high jumper that he once was famed for. The last season had been disappointing with an average of 12.3 points scored per game. This is the lowest he has scored in his career.

The Detroit Pistons did not want to let Griffin go as a player buyout. However, they were forced to do so because they could not find anyone willing to trade for a contract of Griffin’s size. Moreover, Griffin does not feature in any of their upcoming plans.

Griffin however is hopeful of challenging for another championship. Now that he is available for free, major teams like Miami Heat, Los Angeles Lakers and Golden State Warriors are all looking to get him on board. Among them, the Brooklyn Nets are the favorites to get him.

Griffin, although not the player that he once was, is certain to provide a boost to the bench for any team going for the championship. He had been an All-Star during the 2018-19 season, as a part of the Pistons.
