Brendan Fraser Is Jobless After Oscar 2023 Win

Despite his professional comeback, Brendan Fraser has confessed he has nothing in the works at the moment.

The actor, 54, finished off an astonishing Hollywood comeback in March when he won the Oscar for Best Lead Actor for his leading performance in Darren Aronofsky’s film The Whale.

Brendan Fraser’s well-publicized victory occurred after he had to cope with a number of personal crises, including a divorce, the death of his mother, health troubles, and an alleged assault by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association’s then-president.

Brendan Fraser Is Being Picky

At the opening Inspiration Talk and award ceremony of the Greenwich International Film Festival on Thursday, 4 May, Fraser had a conversation with journalist Hannah Storm.

According to People, when asked if Brendan Fraser had any future parts lined up, he answered, “At the moment, I don’t have anything – I’m really being picky right now.” He then jokingly stated that he had “read the trades the other day” and that “apparently, I’m going to have to pick up a picket sign.”

“It might be a long summer,” he said, alluding to the Writers Guild of America strike. Fraser did, however, speak about his involvement in Martin Scorsese’s upcoming crime drama Killers of the Flower Moon, which will have its global premiere in a few weeks at the Cannes Film Festival.

“I will tell you that I am very excited to see it,” he remarked. I can’t oversell my involvement in this big movie because we were filming in incredibly hot heat in Oklahoma, and there are a ton of actors in it. At the very end, I’ll show up for a scene or two,” he said. Prior to becoming a household name with the films George of the Jungle and The Mummy trilogy, Fraser originally found success in the early 1990s with the comedies Encino Man and School Ties.

In Gods and Monsters, The Quiet American, and 2006 Best Picture winner Crash, he also played serious roles.
