Two California Men Sentenced For Conspiracy To Attack Sacramento Democratic HQ

Sacramento

California residents Jarrod Copeland and Ian B. Rogers have been sentenced to over 13 years in prison for plotting to attack the Sacramento Democratic Party headquarters. The San Francisco US Attorney’s Office ruled that the plot was an election-motivated crime.

Both Napa resident Rogers, 46, and Copeland, 39, of Vallejo confessed to the conspiracy to plan and go ahead with the attack on the Sacramento office immediately following the presidential elections in 2020.

The two plotted the attack in January 2021 even as the country descended into chaos following the refusal by Trump and his followers to relinquish office. They planned to burn the place down by spraying the outside with gasoline.

Law enforcement officers recovered 5 pipe bombs from Rogers’ home. The two also admitted planning their attack and timing it after the swearing-in by Joe Biden on January 20, 2021, said investigating officials. Days before Rogers’ weapons were seized, he reportedly texted Copeland about going to war after the presidential inauguration.

In his plea deal, Roger admitted to making the bombs and planning to use them. He is also reported to have admitted to the possession of at least 3 fully automatic guns and planned to use them during the assault on the Sacramento office. They planned to throw gasoline cans into the building to ignite them.

Their resolution to wage a war by attacking the Sacramento headquarters, the John L. Burton building of the Democrat party was grounded on their refusal to acknowledge that they lost the election by fair means.

The US Attorney Stephanie Hinds said that the two would now have much time to ponder on the fact that violence never was the way to go about a political process. She said that violence had never been an acceptable way to bring about a political amendment in the country.
