True crime documentary series has been created to lure the viewers and keep them engrossed. Each episode ends with a cliffhanger and the filmmakers leave little pieces hanging for the viewers to keep going from one episode to another through this latest crime series to eventually unravel the mystery at the heart of the Cecil Hotel.

The docuseries shows what happened to Elisa Lam, a 21-year-old student of Canadian University, after she vanished from the Cecil Hotel which is situated in Los Angeles on 31st January 2013.

The story of Elisa Lam had become an internet sensation owing to the surveillance video that had gone viral after being leaked by the County Sheriff of Los Angeles in order to find any lead in that mysterious case of disappearance.

The video shows Lam walking disoriented into the elevator of Cecil Hotel and pressing all the buttons. After that, she peeps out as the elevator stops and the door opens on each floor. It appears that she is being pursued by some invisible person and she ducks into the elevator. A few moments later she walks out and the elevator door remains open for an entire one and half a minute and eventually slides shut.

After this incident became popular, the hotel became a haunted site and people across the globe started making conjectures regarding the fate of Lam. Some said it was a ghost, others said she was sold some illegal LSD and many others said she was neglected in her mental institution.

Although the case remained unsolved, Netflix televised the incident that intended to thrill the audience but failed miserably. Although for people unacquainted with the case can watch the series for some cheap thrill.
