Manchester City was back to their winning way after a thrilling win, overcoming a two-goal deficit to beat Spurs 4-2 this Thursday. The match also was a personal comeback for Erling Haaland as he scored the equalizer before Mahrez scored two more to ensure a comfortable victory.

Desperate to avoid their 3rd successive loss in various competitions, City began sluggishly right from the start and were punished by two goals from Emerson Royal and Dejan Kulusevski as they netted back-to-back goals in the final minutes of the first half.

But three quick goals in a gap of 12 minutes in the second half quickly spun the match around. Julian Alvarez scored the opening goal for City and Erling Haaland quickly followed. Riyad Mahrez soon put City in front.

Erling Haaland Scored His First Goal In Four Appearances

The goal was Erling Haaland’s first in four appearances in various competitions. With this goal, Erling Haaland’s personal tally in this league went up to 22. Even as the visitors kept up the pressure for an equalizer, Mahrez slotted home the fourth and his second to ensure that City remains firmly in the EPL title race. They are now five points behind leaders Arsenal and have played a game more than them. Spurs under Harry Kane remain in fifth and are five points off the leading four.

Mahrez said that City had come back from two goals down on numerous occasions. The team showed their mettle and they were helped along by a little bit of luck. He said they deserved the win. After the 2-1 defeat to Man United, Guardiola’s men appeared destined for another humiliation and their third successive defeat in the league.
