Barcelona ace player Gerard Pique was given an emotional standing ovation as he made his final Camp Nou appearance. They won a 2-0 La Liga match over Almeria.
The 35-year-old will retire after Tuesday’s trip to Osasuna. It is not known whether he will play in it or not.
Gerard Pique became extremely emotional and said that he loved Barca so he knew this was the right time to go. He further said ‘I was born here and will die here.’
He received several tributes at Camp Nou on his farewell night. His sons Sasha and Milan joined the team. They were all wearing the No. 3 jersey in Gerad’s honor. A huge banner on the pitch said ‘Sempr 3’ (For 3 ver) and a video was played out celebrating Gerard’s career.
Gerard will be remembered as one of the top players in Barca’s history, helping the club win 30 Trophies. While he was at Camp Nou he won 8 La Liga titles and also the 3 Championship Leagues.
Gerard made it a point to thank everyone who had helped him on and off the field during his tenure at the club. He also was very grateful and thankful to the Board for giving him this opportunity to play for Barcelona.
The ex-Spain defender announced his decision on Thursday despite having 18 months left on his deal. His exit will help the Barcelona club to cut their losses. Gerard is the fifth player who has played the most games for the Barcelona club. Only Lionel Messi and Iniesta have won more trophies for Barcelona than Gerard.
Manchester City Manager Pep Guardiola who managed Gerard for four years at Barca said that he always wanted to be a Barca player and his dream came true. He will be greatly missed by all.
