The superstar coach of Liverpool, Jurgen Klopp, has signed a contract extension with the team which will put him in the club till 2026. The deal which Klopp had previously signed was about to expire in 2024 along with the expectation of a sabbatical. But throwing a wrench in the plans, Klopp went ahead and decided to commit himself to a completely new contract. Incidentally, Pepijn Lijnders and Peter Krawietz, Klopp’s assistants, have also signed their extensions along with the coach till 2026.
Jurgen Klopp and Liverpool Continue Their Love Affair
Speaking to the official website of the club, Jurgen Klopp mentioned that he was quite elated with the entire situation. In fact, he felt humbled, blessed, delighted, privileged, and absolutely excited to be a part of Liverpool for four more years.
He went on to speak about his love for the place. While he had definitely known about Liverpool before he had come here, his love for the club increased exponentially after he formed a very integral bond with the club, its players, and its fans. Klopp felt that he and the club bonded on an extremely deep level- something that was necessary for a healthy relationship.
In his 7 years at the club, Jurgen Klopp had enjoyed quite a bit of success. After guiding the team to their sixth Champions League trophy in 2019, he also guided them to their first-ever Premier League title in 2020. His team- filled with superstars- has also won the Club World Cup, the Super Cup, and the Carabao Cup during his time on Merseyside.
Mike Gordon, the head of Fenway Sports Group, went on to mention that the deal signed with Klopp today should be an indication as to how highly Klopp was viewed- both by the team and the fans. While it was never completely mentioned the adulation this German coach received at Anfield, an extended contract would be a good place to start.
