Kanye West Submits Legal Documentation To Change Name

Kanye West has expressed his desire to be known as Ye, and only Ye. On Tuesday, the celebrated rapper filed documents in the court to seek legal approval of the change in his name.

Kanye West had filed his request at the Superior Court in Los Angeles. The court documents say that Kanye West, 44, does not want to keep his complete name – Kanye Omari West – anymore. Ye is his nickname of two letters that have been there for a long time. He will not be keeping any last names or middle names.

The date on the documents was 11th August. However, the documents had not been filed in the system of the court until Tuesday. The reasons cited by Kanye for the sudden change are “personal reasons”. An email had been sent to the lawyer who was in charge of filing the documents, asking for comments on the matter. No replies have been given as of yet.

Kanye’s change in name cannot become official before the change is approved by a judge. Kanye West has referred to himself as Ye for many years on his pages on social media. In a post on Twitter, he explained that he had wanted this change since 2018. He said that the person who was earlier called Kanye West is YE.

His album in 2018 also had the nickname as the title. In interviews that the nickname is not just his name being shortened. It is also a term that is found throughout the entire Bible. Kanye West is currently involved in a divorce case with Kim Kardashian West. Kim has not requested her surname to be returned to just Kardashian, after splitting from West in February.
