Galentine’s Day is the day on which females celebrate their friendship. The term owes its origin to an American sitcom. It was mentioned in the “Parks and Recreation”. In the episode that came out in the year 2010. One of the characters of the sitcom, Leslie Knope, who is played by the actor Amy Poehler, gives meaning to the term. It is done so the day when she throws an annual party for her friends. Anybody can watch this scene which is in episode 16 of the second series of the show.

The popularity of the day has only increased over the years. It is celebrated across the world and number keeps increasing with each year. Women belonging to every relationship status, single, married or committed, celebrate it. This is the day when they embrace the friendship they have between them. The bond that female friends have is shared and the strength of their friendship is acknowledged.

Numerous events are held to mark the special day. They include the Bumble BFF brunch that is held in Glasgow and Revolution. The former is held on 17th in the month of February. The cinema chain, Everyman Cinemas, too provides an escalation to the Galentine’s day. This is done by screening the movies, Mean Girls and Legally Blonde, throughout the nation.

Like everything else, Galentine’s Day too does not go without getting criticized. Some people have expressed their opposition to the idea. They say that the celebration of the bond that women share with one another, should not be a one-time thing. It must be done throughout the year irrespective of the occasion. Poorna Bell, a journalist, gave her statement with regard to the idea behind Galentine’s Day. She said that this is equally irritating to her as Valentine’s Day itself.
