Manchester United won 3-1 at OT on Friday to advance to the 4th round of the FA Cup after surviving a tense match against Everton.
Ten Hag’s team scored all 3 goals thanks to Rashford, who first crossed for brazillian winger Antony to finish at the 2nd post and afterwards pushed Conor Coady into an og. With a late spotkick, he added his name to the scoreboard and scored for the 5th straight game.
Coady had tied the score when DDG erred, and Lampard’s side believed they had tied it again, but a VAR review disallowed a goal by replacement Calvert-Lewin for offside as Rashford secured the victory in extra time.
Manchester United Is Ready For The Trophy:
Ten Hag‘s tendency to give every match a similar attention as PL games has become a hallmark of his 1st season as head coach. This includes the UEL and Efl Cup.
United has entered the championship race and has important games remaining against Man City and Arsenal even before end of Jan. But it did not deter Ten Hag from selecting a potent team against Everton, and it’s highly likely that he’ll follow suit when League One club Charlton Athletic travels to OT on Tuesday again for EFL Cup quarterfinals.
When Manchester United played Everton, Rashford, De Gea, Casemiro, Raphael Varane, Bruno Fernandes, Anthony Martial and Christian Eriksen, all got the start. It worked out.
Casemiro, who was instrumental in helping Brazil win the World Cup, has begun every one of United’s 5 games since the competition. Casemiro is likely the one player in the team for whom Ten Hag cannot find a natural successor, but the reality that he began against Everton 3 days after playing all ninety minutes against Bournemouth demonstrates how eager the Dutchman really is to pick up a trophy, even though the PL for Manchester United is still his top priority.
