Melanie Lynskey has reported that her co-stars from the TV series Yellowjackets banded together after a member of the production team body-shamed her. The actor recalled that the member kept asking her what she planned to do- as the producers would readily provide her with a physical trainer.

This was revealed by the famous actor in her interview with Rolling Stone which was published on Saturday. Lynskey also mentioned that her co-stars Christina Ricci, Tawny Cypress, and Juliette Lewis all bandied together around her in support- with Lewis even writing a letter to the producers of the show on behalf of Lynskey.

Melanie Lynskey and her Struggle Against Body-shaming

The Yellowjackets revolves around the now-adult survivors of a high school soccer team that suffered through a plane crash, and Melanie Lynskey’s character Shauna has an affair with Adam, a handsome young artist. Lynskey has mentioned on several occasions that she faced harsh criticism online from viewers who simply didn’t buy that Adam would be attracted to her character. Lynskey was quite surprised that this was what people were choosing to focus on- being thin or young.

Since the show is all about portraying her characters in a much more sex-positive way, Melanie Lynskey stated that she didn’t want the focus to be on the physical appearance of her character. It was really important for her character to never comment on her body, or even put on a dress and wish that she could look better.

Interestingly, this isn’t the first time that Melanie Lynskey has had to endure much scrutiny over her body over the course of her three-decade career. Back in 2012, critics expressed similar skepticism about her relationship with the character of Christopher Abbot in the film ‘Hello I Must Be Going.’
