When a room filled with Republicans greeted Mike Pence at Peoria, most of them still had the revelation of Pence’s lucky escape from the Capitol mob at the the back of their heads.
Most of them knew how close Pence and his security detail had come to fatality during the riot at the Capitol on the 6th of January, 2021. They had also heard ringing screams of ‘Hang Mike Pence’ coming from the protestors.
Later, they also heard the chilling admission from Donald Trump at the committee testimony- where he claimed that Pence deserved all he got. And surprisingly, in the warehouse where this meeting took place, Pence mentioned nothing about the event or the former President of the United States. And anyone who has an idea about the proxy war going on between Trump and Pence for the result of the August 2 gubernatorial primary in the state will not be surprised by that.
Mike Pence and Donald Trump Have Been Avoiding Each Other
For the last few days, the split screen between Mike Pence and Donald Trump has created quite a major swing state contest that could have massive implications in the elections that will take place in November. As a matter of fact, this proxy battle will also be a major test of the direction that the post-Trump GOP was taking, along with a potential preview of the Presidential primary in 2024. In what could be considered to be his most subtle undercutting of the former POTUS yet in the midterms, Pence went on to support Karrin Taylor Robson, while Trump went on to support conspiracy theorist Kari Lake on Friday.
On the other side of the coin, even Donald Trump refused to mention Mike Pence at his campaigning event. He also refused to talk about the recent revelations that came from the Jan. 6 select committee regarding Pence. Nevertheless, he still complained about the investigation that was being conducted on him.
