Sen. Mitch McConnell Bids Goodbye To Sen. Lamar Alexander With An Emotional Tribute

Senator Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) chokes up on the Senate floor while bidding goodbye to his “friend of 18 years.” The majority Leader Senator, Mitch McConnell had prepared an emotional tribute for the outgoing Senator Lamar Alexander (R-Tenn.).

In his farewell remarks for Lamar Alexander, the Tennessee Republican, the Senator mentioned that he was the one of the most effective, brilliant and thoughtful Senators this floor had ever seen. He further mentioned that his long-time friend has been his ally for a long time in the upper chamber. Mitch McConnell acknowledged that he had taken his help on several occasions and has always looked forward to his wisdom.

Mitch McConnell Had A Hard Time Making It Through His Entire Speech

Mitch McConnell, in his emotional tribute for his outgoing friend mentioned all the qualities that made him respect the man. According to several sources, the GOP leader mentioned that he leaned on him for his positive outlook, his optimism, his ability to look at matters from the bright side and his belief that hard work could make everything look brighter. The leader had to pause several times within his speech as he was choking up in between lines. He had to take time to compose himself after which he went on to complete his tribute for Lamar Alexander.

Mitch McConnell also mentioned in his speech that he would miss their “regular dinners” with colleagues like Lamar Alexander. Many tweets on McConnell’s speech mentioned that he was having a hard time making it through the entire speech. He kept choking up in the middle.

McConnell added in his speech that though he dreaded life in the Senate without his friend, he wants what’s best for him. The Senator mentioned that his friend will be leaving the house much stronger than before. And for all his hard work he has earned for himself rest for the remainder of his life.
