New York Yankees gained in the wild card race after winning against Texas Rangers on Monday. Gary Sanchez hit a rebound from a poor defense with a home run.

Sanchez hit his 22nd homer and put the New York Yankees ahead in the 2nd inning.

Sanchez played poorly behind the plate and that had led to 3 defeats. New York Yankees had fallen from their playoff position as he failed to tag a runner against Mets even though he caught the throw. He also missed a foul popup in the 7-run inning by Cleveland.

NY Yankees had built a 4-0 lead before the Rangers closed the gap. They closed it in a 3-run fifth against Nestor Cortes.

New York Yankees moved in half-game of Toronto for the 2nd WC and 11 games left for them. They are 2 back of Boston who is leading the league’s wild card. The New York Yankees lost 15 from 22 which followed a 13- game win streak.

Hits from Judge and Torres around Stanton’s fly built their lead in a 3-run third. Alexy stranded the bases loaded by striking out Gardner.

Cortes pitched shutout ball until the 5th when Culberson led off with a home run. Taveras and Kiner-Falefa hit doubles, Green threw in a wild pitch that Gary Sánchez hardly nudged for, and Adolis García hit a sacrifice fly.

NY Yankees manager Aaron Boone took the chance to defend Sánchez and credited him with his improvement. Boone stated that it is important to recognize the strides that Sanchez had made on the defensive end while acknowledging his big mistakes.
