The majority of the citizens of America have received multiple stimulus checks after the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic and it is possible that the IRS has made certain mistakes in this regard. The two-year span of stimulus checks have resulted in many mistakes and thus, the IRS is asking many families to return back their stimulus check.

Reasons Why Stimulus Checks Must Be Returned

Each stimulus check was issued with different income criteria during the coronavirus pandemic. However, in many cases, people earned more in the year 2020-2021, and thus, their stimulus checks must be returned by the respective family. Moreover, an individual who died in 2019, would still get the stimulus check in the next year. These mistakes took place as the income tax return was filed in 2018 and 2019.

As per the IRS, the stimulus payment that was sent to the deceased must be returned back. Moreover, people who are not a citizen of America must send back their checks as well which they received by mistake from the IRS. There were also many cases where the same individual got two checks in the same round which must also be returned back.

In the view of the Ascent, the tax collection agency of America will take a lot of time to just identify one mistake. However, in case the IRS identifies a mistake or issue in regard to the previous filing, then they will describe the issue to the recipient in a letter.

The people who have already used their stimulus payments must return in back with a money order or a check to the Department of Treasury of the U.S. and a note must be attached to it stating the reason for its return. There is just a month left for the filing of returns and the IRS is continuously warning people regarding transactions of virtual currency.
