Ralf Rangnick must have realized the true extent of his task as Manchester United’s interim manager. He let his frustration show as the team was held to a draw against Newcastle. The dismal one-all draw left him shaking his head in frustration.

This draw broke the German’s perfect record since he took over from Solskjaer when he was dismissed back in November before Manchester United clashed with Newcastle. But the team put up an abject display at  Tyneside against the Magpies.

Rangnick can take solace that his team performed better in the second half and managed to salvage a point. He bluntly stated that he did not like the team performance. He said that the team could not gain control of the game except in brief patches.

Rangnick Says Manchester United Losing Out On Vital Areas Of The Game

Manchester United lost out on the vital areas of physicality, energy, and winning the second ball. He said that the performance has to improve a lot.

Rangnick said that the team has to be prepared to win the direct duels. That has not always been the case with the team. He said Manchester United gave away the ball a lot and that was not going to make things convenient.

Edison Cavani’s 70th-minute equalizer helped the team salvage a draw after Allan Saint-Maximin put Newcastle ahead in the 7th minute. Rangnick extends his unbeaten run to 4 games with this draw. But Manchester United has been unimpressive under the former coach of Schalke, Leipzig, and Hoffenheim.

They won by a goal in the first two matches against Palace and Norwich, followed by a one-all draw in the Champions League match against Switzerland’s Young Boys.

The initial jumpstart enjoyed by coaches has not worked with Rangnick and the results have been quite flat. He will need to raise the game of the players to make it to the top 4 and qualify for the Champions League. It will not be easy given the present trend.
