Real Madrid became the first team in Champions League history to score 1,000 goals. Karim Benzema sent the ball to the back of the net from close range and gave them the lead in the 14th minute. They led the game against Shakhtar Donetsk at their home, Santiago Bernabeu on Wednesday. He scored another in the second half.

Real Madrid have Reached A Great Milestone

This goal brought up the landmark goalscoring feat for Real Madrid who became the first team to reach the 1,000 goal mark.

Bayern Munich occupies the second position scoring 768 goals while Barcelona is in the third position. They have 655 goals.

The club has had some prolific goal scorers over the years, none more so than Cristiano Ronaldo who, during his nine seasons in Madrid, became the leading scorer in the tournament’s history, including the 105 goals he scored for Real Madrid.

Karim Benzema scored 2 goals on Wednesday which were his 74th and 75th Champions League goals. The club legend Raul had 66 to his name.

The European Cup was introduced in 1955 before it was rebranded to the Champions League in 1992.

Real Madrid has won the competition a record 13 times, including three times in a row between 2015 and 2018.

The club won the inaugural edition of the European Cup in 1955-56, as well as the following four editions before being knocked out by Barcelona in the first round in 1960.

Real Madrid beat Shakhtar 2-1 to maintain their push to qualify for the next round in the Champions League, as Benzema’s goal proved to be of utmost importance.
