In February, Governor Wolf presented a “$1.7 billion stimulus check strategy to assist Pennsylvania in completely recovering from the epidemic and paving the way for a prosperous future.” His program includes $500 million for the Pennsylvania Opportunity Program, which would deliver direct payments of up to $2,000 to homes in the Keystone State with an income of $80,000 or less.
Democratic lawmakers have proposed legislation in both the Senate and the House, but the “Republican-led General Assembly has been hesitant to move” on his plan or provide one with their own to use federal stimulus check from the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA). The state has $2 billion in federal ARPA stimulus check funding that must be used by December 31, 2024, or it will be returned.
Stimulus Check Will Be Sent To Eligible Families And Individuals
Governor Wolf was joined by Rep Patty Kim in Harrisburg earlier this month to urge GOP state legislators to pass the PA Opportunity Program to aid Pennsylvanians who are suffering from rising prices. “Since then, a lot has happened, from inflation to price rises to the crisis in Ukraine. Governor Wolf stated, “Pennsylvanians need our help now more than they did in February.”
The governor has promoted his stimulus check initiative as a method to assist employees and families who are still struggling financially as a result of the outbreak. Many people who are “still covering pandemic-related expenditures, stabilizing their budgets, and restoring their savings” will benefit from the direct payments. The funding would provide much-needed assistance in covering high childcare and housing costs. Provide chances for Pennsylvanians to finish educational and training courses to “strengthen their abilities and enhance income—all contributing to a higher quality of life.”
According to Gov. Wolf, residents “should not have to pick between paying for electricity or food, daycare or petrol,” according to Gov. Wolf. We have the chance and the resources to guarantee that they don’t struggle and that they succeed.”
