According to the Treasury Department, 645K Americans have yet to get their third stimulus check as of late autumn.

Starting in March of last year, anybody who met the stimulus check criteria was eligible to receive up to $1400 from the American Rescue Plan. A total of 1.6 billion dollars is gone. As of April 1, 2021, approximately 420,000 people have not received their $1,400 stimulus check for a qualifying dependant, which the IRS said was due to a computer error. More than 1.2 million stimulus payments were made ($1.9 billion) to persons who were most likely not eligible.

IRS Is Still Processing  Stimulus Checks From Last Year

Multiple preparers told Nexstar’s WTEN four months later. Some tax preparers, who have been performing their jobs for years, said they had never seen the IRS take such a long time to respond. Last year, communicating with the IRS was also tough, which added to the situation. It was aggravating for taxpayers, and it was much more aggravating for preparers who had to receive calls from consumers and try to get answers from the IRS.

The Internal Revenue Service has been straining to keep up. At the beginning of the 2018 tax season, the IRS had more than 18 million unprocessed returns and correspondence. According to U.S. Senator Mike Crapo, the backlog has grown to more than 23 million items. On Feb. 17, Senator Mike Crapo, a member of the United States Senate Finance Committee, testified at a hearing regarding IRS customer service difficulties.

According to the IRS, most consumers who file online will get their refunds within 21 days assuming their information is valid.
