Coleen Rooney is the wife of Wayne Rooney, the former England football player. She is going to receive almost $1.7 million as a part of the legal fees. Coleen Rooney is expecting to receive a huge amount of money from Rebekah Vardy who is the spouse of one of her husband’s ex-teammates. Coleen has recently won a high-profile libel trial and the judge has asked Vardy to pay this amount to Coleen. The legal case is popularly called as “Wagatha Christie” owing to the famous female mystery author, Agatha Christie joining with Wags meaning wives and girlfriends.

Legal Tussle Named Wagatha Christie

It must be noted that Rebekah Vardy is also the wife of a famous footballer from Leicester City named Jamie Vardy. Rebekah had falsely sued Rooney in a libel post accusing him of leaking private stories from her social media accounts.

Karen Steyn, the judge of this high-profile case, decided in July that Rooney proved her accusations almost true. Moreover, Vardy knew and forgave him for leaking private stories. However, Vardy told Judge Steyn on Tuesday that she was asked to pay 90% of legal costs of almost $1.67 million.  This Wagatha Christie trial took a turn when Vardy was asked to pay £800,000 by mid-November.

Twists And Turns

This Wagatha Christie case has gained a lot of mainstream media attraction owing to the famous footballers involved, accusations, and amateur sleuthing. Vardy mentioned that she had everyone blocked from her Instagram account with the exception of one person. Post this she posted stories to check if they got leaked and they did.

Rooney’s lawyer stated Vardy deleted other messages and files and accidentally dropped the phone in the North Sea while on a boat. This proved Vardy’s effort to destroy evidence.
