Argentina was helped to a win by 3 goals against Uruguay on Sunday. Two of these goals came right before half-time.

Messi Scored An Unusual Goal For Argentina

Lionel Messi floated a 35-meter pass into the penalty box. The ball was missed by Nicolas Gonzalez and even by the Uruguayan goalkeeper, Fernando Muslera, and sneaked into the back of the net.

Six minutes after this freak goal, Lautaro Martinez missed his chance from the edge of the box. The ball fell into the path of Rodrigo De Paul, who converted it into a goal.

Martinez managed to score in the end, after he scored from a low cross delivered in by De Paul in the 62nd minute.

Messi stated that they had played a great game as everything worked out perfectly.

Uruguay sits back and generates danger from counters. Argentina got their first goal and kept finding spaces, which in turn got them more goals.

The gap between Brazil and Argentina has reduced to 6 points after Brazil drew their game at Colombia, 0-0. They are currently placed second in the 10-team South American qualifying group.

The top 4 teams qualify for the World Cups automatically while the fifth team plays in an inter-regional playoff.

Uruguay was unbeaten in 8 matches before they faced Argentina and are now placed fourth in the table.

Argentina grew as the game went on, though, and Giovani Lo Celso missed a golden chance to open the scoring when he rounded the goalkeeper but delayed before striking a shot that hit the underside of the bar and the goal line before rolling to safety.
