Spanish league giant Barcelona is going through one of the worst phases in the club’s history. However, in their Copa Del Rey return leg against Sevilla, they showed what they are capable of. Barcelona thrashed Sevilla 3-0 and performed a spectacular comeback over the two legs.

Barcelona Shows Signs Of Their Past Glory

Sevilla had 2 goals to their name from the first leg. However, an early goal from Ousmane Dembele and an emphatic header from Gerard Pique deep into stoppage time forced the tie into extra time.

Sevilla had a chance to put the tie to rest in the 73rd minute, but Marc-Andre Ter Stegen kept out Lucas Ocampos’ penalty. However, less than five minutes after extra time began, Carlos Braithwaite completed the miracle comeback by turning in a cross from Jordi Alba.

Barcelona is currently facing a presidential election after the last president, Josep Bartomeu, had to resign. Recently, allegations of match-fixing have been raised against him. There are also rumors that the club is facing an immensely difficult financial situation. All three of the presidential candidates were present in the stands for the magnificent reversal.

Moreover, Lionel Messi’s contract is set to expire in two months. One of the greatest players of all time may be a free agent come May. The three presidential candidates have promised to give this matter precedence over everything else.

However, Messi’s relations with the only club he has been with remains strained and questionable. There was a leaked report of the exorbitant amount of money he is paid by the club, which Barcelona has denied. Messi has also made unsavory comments on what he thinks of the club’s directorial board.

For now, fans will definitely hope to see Barcelona regain their former glory, if possible before their legendary club captain leaves.
