Every club and their players in Europe dreams to win the Champions League trophy. However, for the fans of a club like Liverpool it was looking like a distant dream this season, and it was just vice verse for the fans of Newcastle United.
Newcastle United since the club’s takeover by Qatari riches has been on a dream run. With a spot on the Champions League roaster in sight, they were incredibly hyped. However, with the two consecutive blows they suffered this weekend, things are not looking as good as it was before. The club lost their first major final since 1999 to the Red Devils who themselves won a trophy after six long years. However, to pile up to their misery Tottenham take a four point lead in the top four race, making it hard for Eddie Howe and men to keep their Champions League dreams alive.
Even though Newcastle still have two games to play and a four-point deficit in two games is not that hard to achieve. However, the problem is the black and whites of England are among the six teams that are counting points with their hands in hope to get their Champions league spot.
Champions League Spot Slipping Away From Newcastle’s Grip?
If the league leaders Gunners, the Man City side and the Red Devils keep on pursuing the league in the same fashion, the fight for the last spot of the top four will not only attract Newcastle, but will also give a new hope to the 9th placed Brentford. With Chelsea almost ready to go to the Europa League next season, Brentford, Tottenham, Liverpool, Newcastle United and two other teams will keep fighting for their spot in top four, and the way Brentford has been playing, staying unbeaten in the league since October, it is as much a chance to be on the Champions League as it is for any of the other teams we have mentioned.
