On Monday, Carli Lloyd, a legend of United States soccer, announced that it was time to call it quits. She is among the best players to have played for the USWNT.

39-year-old Carli Lloyd’s last matches will be 4 friendlies that will soon be announced. She will then play end her stint at NJ/NY Gotham FC by playing through the season. Her professional career lasted 12 years.

In her statement, Carli Lloyd said that she had started playing internationally with 2 objectives, back in 2005. One was to get her team to a championship, and the other was to be a complete footballer. Since then, she had worked hard every single day, and even more so after getting to the top.

The legendary Carli Lloyd has been capped 312 times and had started in 239 of them. Only Kristine Lily has represented the USWNT more. She has appeared for the USWNT in 3 decades, 4 world cups, and 4 Olympics. Of them, she has won 2 Olympic golds, and 2 World Cups. Carli Lloyd has played the highest number of championship matches than any other USWNT player.

To add to that, she has a scored 128 goals internationally. This makes her the United States soccer’s 4th highest all-time scorer, and fifth in the world. She has 10 goals in World Cups making her the third-highest all-time. She is the only other footballer to have scored three goals in the finals of a World Cup. She did so in 2015, against Japan.

Carli Lloyd is also only one of two players to have been named the Women’s Player of the Year by FIFA twice, in 2015 as well as 2016. In Lloyd’s statement, she was grateful for the support she got from her fans, teammates, husband, and family.
