It has only been a week since Senator Dianne Feinstein returned to the Senate of the US. She has been absent for approximately three months prior. However, the return has already started raising questions over whether the senator has the mental capacity required to be a member of the most powerful deliberative body in the world.

Dianne Feinstein Has Her Own Reply To The Questions

Dianne Feinstein, a senator for the Democratic party and who is currently 89, was recuperating after suffering from shingles. She had remained in her California home and had not been able to attend any sessions at Capitol Hill since 2023 February.

On May 10th, the day of her eagerly anticipated return, the Democratic Caucus of the Senate could finally post a complete attendance, Senator John Fetterman of Pennsylvania had also not been present over the majority of spring. It further meant that the Democrats’ margin of one seat that allowed the control of the important Judiciary Committee can be reinstated. As such, the judicial nominations of President Biden can get some much-needed support.

Chuck Schumer, the leader of the Senate Majority, was present to greet Dianne Feinstein, a bit frail of her wear and tear when he returned. She had to enter the Capitol in a wheelchair to give her vote and staff accompanied her wherever she went. According to Schumer, Dianne Feinstein is exactly at the place she desires to be.

Later on, while speaking to reporters on May 16th, Dianne Feinstein was in confusion as to why there were questions regarding her absence. She clarified that she was never completely absent. She was present and voting and requested the reporters to get the details correct. It is not certain whether Feinstein was talking about the previous week or the three months she had been at home.
