There is the possibility of Joel Embiid missing out on Game 5 after his hard fall in the loss against the Wizards. The Philadelphia 76ers have a 3-1 lead and are close to a place in the Eastern Conference semifinals.
The star center could have to deal with an injury after the news came in that he would be getting an MRI done on Tuesday. Joel Embiid suffered a knee injury after a fall. He had to be pulled out of the game against the Wizards, which the latter won 122-114.
An Awkward Landing For Joel Embiid
His injury came in the early minutes of the game as he took on Robin Lopez of the Washington Wizards off the ground. He was on the floor in the 7th minute of the game. Joel Embiid couldn’t brace himself as he went down and seemed visibly in pain.
He was there on the floor through that quarter but seemed quite uncomfortable. He left for the locker with seconds left with a perceptible limp and did not turn up for the rest of the game.
As long as he was there on the floor, Embiid proved his mettle. He scored 8 points and had 6 rebounds, a couple of assists, plus a first-quarter steal. Before the game, he had an average of 30 points and 67% shooting.
The 76ers got outplayed in the next two quarters, going down by 15. His absence affected the movement of the ball and chances were fewer. With Joel Embiid gone, the Wizards managed 48 points. Centers Lopez and Daniel Gafford together got 28 points.
They will need him in the next game to be assured of a win. Game 5 at Philadelphia of the first-round series of the Eastern Conference is on Wednesday. It is a best of 7 series. A victory would have been ideal for the 76ers. It would have given them a breather of a few days without having to worry about Embiid’s injury. The Game 4 loss has led to a Game 5 match between the two on Wednesday.
