Tuesday, a day after a gunman opened fire at a Fourth of July Parade, killing seven people and injuring scores more, U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris paid a visit to the city of Highland Park.

Along with her husband Doug Emhoff, Harris spoke to the locals while meeting with first responders and civic officials in Highland Park.

“I am here to convey our nation’s and President Joe Biden’s condolences to you. I am very sorry for what happened to you all. And the sorrow, the pain,” Harris continued. That should not have occurred at all. We discuss how pointless it is. It makes no sense. It makes no logic at all. Kamala Harris Addressed The July 4 Shooting

Kamala Harris talked to educators in Chicago before her visit to Highland Park, where she criticized the July 4 mass shooting and reaffirmed the need for an assault weapons prohibition.

The suspect who is accused of opening fire at a Fourth of July parade in a Chicago suburb purchased five guns lawfully, including two high-powered rifles. Despite the fact that police were summoned to his house twice in 2019 for threats of violence and suicide, authorities stated on Tuesday that the transactions were permitted. Seven charges of murder were leveled against the suspect.

The offender may be given a mandatory life sentence without the possibility of parole, according to Lake County State’s Attorney Eric Rinehart, who also pledged that dozens more charges will be brought against the individual.

In Highland Park, a wealthy neighborhood of around 30,000 people on the coast of Lake Michigan, the shooter fired more than 70 shots into a crowd while standing on a rooftop.
