Luka Doncic, the superstar of the Dallas Mavericks, has agreed to a monumental deal worth $207mn. The supermax extension for a rookie will last for five years, as announced on Tuesday by the team.
Luka Doncic’s Value Is Quite Appropriate
Currently, Luka Doncic is among the best NBA players in the league’s history. He is only 22 years of age. Doncic, with his recent performances, is quickly becoming the league’s next face. He has also become the first-ever player to qualify for the max rookie extension. He qualified after being twice voted into All-NBA first team. The deal also has an option for the player in the last year.
On Monday, a team of leaders of the franchise went directly to Slovenia’s Ljubljana to officially present the offer to Luka Doncic, and his agent Bill Duffy. The contingent included Jason Kidd, the coach, Nico Harrison, the general manager, and Mark Cuban, the owner of the Mavericks. Casey Smith, player performance and health director, and Michael Finley, the assistant GM, and Dirk Nowitzki, the special adviser were also present.
Luka Doncic later said that it was his dream coming true. He said that basketball had given him a lot, and taken him to many spectacular places. He is excited and humbled to stay in Dallas and be a member of the team.
Luka Doncic was the youngest EuroLeague MVP in the 2017-18 season when he made Real Madrid champions. He was then selected as the NBA Draft’s 3rd pick overall. However, he was immediately traded to Dallas by Atlanta. Atlanta received Trae Young as well as a 1st round pick in the future.
Doncic and Slovenia finished fourth in the Tokyo Olympics. His NBA average currently stands at 7.7 assists, 8.4 rebounds, and 25.7 points per game.
