Malaysia’s Najib guilty of all charges in 1MDB-linked graft case

Reports have just come in that the former Malaysian Prime Minister, Najib Razak, has been charged guilty in the 1MDB scandal.

The charges are of corruption and billions of dollars theft from the country’s fund. With this decision, Najib has become the first major leader in Malaysia to have been charged guilty of such a crime.

An average of 42 million ringgit is said to have been diverted under the former prime minister’s administration. Mohd Nazlan Ghazali, the ruling judge, criticized the defense system for not detecting the case earlier.

“I find that the prosecution has successfully proven its case beyond a reasonable doubt. I therefore find accused guilty and convict the accused,” said Judge Nazlan.

The other charges against the former prime minister also include money laundering, criminal conduct, and abuse of power.

During the court session, it was also pointed out that Najib, during his time as the finance minister, overstepped his bounds for personal profit.

The charges Najib has been found guilty of has “whipping” as one of the punishments. However, sources suggest that, given his age, he won’t be whipped.

Former Malaysian prime minister Najib will be jailed for several decades.
