Zinedine Zidane certainly wouldn’t have imagined Real Madrid losing out to a third division team ever- especially when they were a man up. And yet, the giants in Spain got knocked out of the Copa del Rey last Wednesday when Alcoyano- a third division side recently promoted scored two goals to Madrid’s one. Now, questions have been raised on the club management, and especially the coach- who previously had a scintillating career coaching the same team.
Real Madrid Have Now Won Just Once Out Of 5 Games
While some have attributed this loss to sheer misfortunes, others have not been so kind. Most believe Real Madrid’s loss to be their own hubris- they didn’t take this match seriously, and they had to suffer the consequences of it. Interestingly, the La Liga contenders had scored first- with Eder Militao putting the ball in the net, but then Jose Solbes from the third division side equalized for them. What happened next was just catastrophic. The team didn’t show any zeal, or any enthusiasm to win a match that actually mattered. It comes as even more humiliating with Alcoyano losing a player to a red card. No one knew how Real Madrid conceded another goal, having a player advantage.
Zinedine Zidane, on his part, has ruled the game as an upset. Even though he put in substitutions with Eden Hazard and Karim Benzema coming off the bench, they couldn’t improve the luck of this team. Some believe that the absence of Cristiano Ronaldo is still haunting the team. Zidane believes that Real Madrid has been playing quite well throughout the season, and a few losses in the last couple of matches shouldn’t be the decider. After all, they still sit second on the League table.
Regarding his coaching career, the erstwhile talismanic player of the Galacticos felt quite assured that he would still be the coach when this storm passes. And for the sake of Real Madrid fans worldwide, we hope that the coach connects well with the new signings- for till now, they haven’t done anything of note.
